Soothe Sensitive Skin With These Innovative Products

For as long as I can remember I’ve had “sensitive skin.” No matter the season, the day, the year, my skin is prone to unpredictable temper tantrums (as I like to call them.) One moment I can be having the perfect, clear skin day only to find itchy red patches appearing out of thin air the next. I can even recall being made fun of growing up because as soon as the weather got slightly cold my hands and cheeks would turn bright red and scaly. Needless to say, it wasn’t my best look. Over the years, I have tried so many products supposedly developed to soothe sensitive skin but rarely found them to have any lasting results. Either these products would leave a filmy residue on my skin that would make me prone to breakouts, or they would dry out my skin leaving scaly, flaky patches. For a long time I resolved that there was nothing to be done to soothe my sensitive skin and that I’d always be playing a back and forth game with itchy irritated flare ups.
When I first began Rodan + Fields’ SOOTHE Regimen, I figured I had nothing to lose. I had been dealing with one of the most sensitive skin years of my life and would have weeks of unmanageable irritated patches both on my face and my body. At times my skin felt so uncomfortable that I started having a hard time staying asleep at night. I would wake up because I was scratching at my face and arms and couldn’t find any relief. 4 Steps to Soothe Sensitive Skin
The SOOTHE Regimen is a simple 4-step routine that can help instantly improve redness, irritation, dryness, and uncomfortable skin. Through these steps, the right combination of ingredients work together in just the right layering order to help visibly reduce sensitive skin woes. It’s even been shown to improve flares due to atopic dermatitis and eczema. I found the steps to be so simple and easy to incorporate into my morning and night rituals. I actually saved time not having to experiment with the slew of random products in my medicine cabinet trying to find anything that could help.
Step 1: SOOTHE Calming Gel Cleanser
My morning routine starts with turning on the coffee pot and then heading to wash my face while my cup of Joe brews. I wet my skin with lukewarm water, massage R + F SOOTHE Calming Gel Cleanser onto my face for 30-60 seconds, rinse and pat dry. This gel is gentle enough to remove impurities from the skin including makeup without completely stripping your skin of what it needs to stay healthy and nourished (aka the protective acid mantle and moisture barrier). I also LOVE that this cleanser is fragrance-free so I don’t have to worry about overly perfumed scents irritating my skin even more.
STEP 2: SOOTHE Sensitive Skin Treatment
Once I’ve cleansed my face, I apply a thin layer of this lotion over my skin and let it dry. I find this product to be SO incredibly soothing. If I’m having a flare up or especially patchy day, applying this lotion instantly helps reduces any redness or itchiness I might be experiencing. It also helps moisturize after exposing your skin to UV, pollution, and other everyday stressors. Goodbye blotchy skin!
Step 3: New SOOTHE Moisturizing Rescue Cream
This cream is what I like to call my holy grail. I apply a thin layer over my face and I can feel the dry itchiness instantly fading away. The winter is tough on everyone’s skin, but this year I moved to Minneapolis where the winters are brutal! I don’t know if I’ve ever experienced such a dry brittle winter in all my life, and let me tell you my skin has felt it. Just stepping outside you can almost physically see the moisture from your skin being whisked away into thin air. That is where the Moisturizing Rescue Cream has made a huge difference for me. It helps to seal in hydration and strengthens your skin’s natural moisture barrier while also helping to defend against irritants. A combination of Essential Ceramides and Colloidal Oatmeal supply essential building blocks to strengthen & soothe sensitive skin and relieve dry, eczema-prone skin.
Step 4: SOOTHE Daily Mineral Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30
The last step of the SOOTHE Regimen is sunscreen! I give the bottle a good shake and apply over my face and neck. I love that this sunscreen isn’t greasy and absorbs quickly so that I can still apply my makeup as usual without feeling like it’s sliding off. The sunscreen is extremely lightweight and is the perfect easy finishing touch to my morning routine. All I have to do is grab my cup of coffee and I’m good to go!
At night, I repeat steps 1-3 so that my skin can stay protected and moisturized even while I sleep. I personally also experience irritated patches on my hands and arms and apply step 2 and 3 to those patches as well.

Consistency is key to this regimen, and continuing to follow it morning and evening visibly helped improve my irritated itchy skin. No more nights waking up at 3am because I’m too itchy to sleep or coating my face in foundation to try and hide the many irritated patches.
