10 Picture Posing Ideas for Instagram
Are you interested in learning how to pose for pictures? I’m sharing 10 picture posing ideas for you to try below! Use them to supercharge your Instagram feed!
10 Picture Posing Ideas #1: Play With Your Hair
If you’re just starting to expand your picture poses, this is a great place to begin! Brush your hair back gently from your face. Just this small movement can help you relax when taking pictures and create a more natural look.
Once you’ve nailed it, feel free to get more dramatic by trying a hair flip! This pose is often best done with a downward/side glance so all focus is on your hair!
10 Picture Posing Ideas #2: Put Your Hands on Your Hips
Those hips don’t lie girl! Put on hand just above your hip bone to accentuate your waist and create a triangle with your arm! In case you’re wondering: triangles are GOOD when it comes to posing.
Try turning your wrist over for a dramatic hand-on-hip look!
10 Picture Posing Ideas #3: Take a Walk
This pose can take a bit of work but when you get that perfect walking shot, it’s SOOO worth it!
Tips: Try rocking back and forth to get a “mid-step look” without your photographer having to move!
If you really want to go for it, walk at a normal pace (don’t try to drag out your movements) and look over your shoulder.
Feel free to try different angles: from the side, walking straight ahead, etc!
10 Picture Posing Ideas #4: Use Stairs
Using stairs is a great way to add a unique background to your picture and change up your levels (standing, sitting, laying down). Try leaning on the railing, sitting, or even try a sideways shot!
Tip: Do a practice session by trying lots of possible stairs poses and seeing what works best for your body! Then try to recreate them at home so you can get your pose perfectly when it’s time for a shoot!
Stairs can also be a great place to show off a flowing dress by spreading it out all around you in a cascade of flowing fabric!
10 Picture Posing Ideas #5: Have a Seat
Give your pictures a casual/relaxed feel by sitting down! Whether you’re sitting on a curb, chair, or stairs, this can really mix up your feedWhen sitting make sure your photographer is nice and low to make you look taller.
Tip: Extend your legs instead of drawing them up towards your body. This will help to create the appearance longer legs and torso (which we all want!)
10 Picture Posing Ideas #6: Give It a Spin
This has become one of my favorite poses to add movement and playfulness to my feed! It’s also a great way to show off a breezy dress.
Tip: You don’t need to spin as fast as you think you do! Start by spinning gently from side to side. Hold the edge of your dress to really give it extra movement!
If you want to spin all the way around, try looking over your shoulder for a fun and flirty pose!
10 Picture Posing Ideas #7: Add Some Fun Props
As a long time performer I love me some fun props! Whether it’s food, accessories, seasonal pieces (floaties, wreaths, beach balls etc.) This is a great way to show your audience who YOU are and what YOU like to do!
Tip: When using accessories as props simply hold the brim of your hat or the rim of your sunglasses to start!
Pro Tip: Once you’ve mastered the above trip, try a hat toss or add some bubbles! They possibilities are endless and one of my favorite ways to mix up my feed!
10 Picture Posing Ideas #8: Give a Kick
Add even more motion to your feed! Turn slightly sideways and kick out one leg. No need for a crazy ninja kick, just swing your leg no higher than waist level.
10 Picture Posing Ideas #9: Add a Friend
Leah and I love shooting together when we can for some added fun! Grab your bestie or boyfriend and ask them to shoot with you!
Tip: Have one person look straight at the camera while the other person looks at whoever they’re shooting with. (Person A looks at camera, Person B looks at person A)
Picture Poses For Instagram #10: Incorporate Your Favorite Drink
This post is just in time for Pumpkin Spice Lattes! Whether you’re posing for Happy Hour or with your favorite Starbucks drink, holding your favorite beverage is a simple yet fun prop!
Tip: Hold the cup at chest level or pretend to be going in for a sip!
